I want to watch digital TV in my apartment?
Only 1 cable line comes into the apartment unit that I live in. Unfortunately this single line is directly connected to cable modem.
Now, in order for me to watch digital TV (HDTV also?), what should I do?
Should I buy a separate digital TV/HDTV antenna (VHF/UHF) and plug into TV directly?
Or should I purchase a splitter/amplifier, plug that into a single cable line, and then connect both cable modem and TV? If I select this method, will there be any decrease in performance for internet and digital TV?
By the way, my TV is a LCD TV which I believe it has a built-in digital TV tuner (However it seems like I can't select channels like 18.1, 18.2, 18.3, etc).

You can order digital cable service from your cable company. They'll provide a splitter to send the cable to both your modem and your TV. You'll also get a cable box. Since you have apparently have an HDTV, you might want to opt for the cable company's HD channel package and HD cable box
Another option is to leave your cable as-is and try for over-the-air reception with an indoor antenna. However, if you're in the U.S., you should know that trying to get TV channels with even the best indoor antenna is a roll of the dice. You can expect to be disappointed on some or maybe all of your channels if you're not really close to the transmitting towers. You won't know whether an indoor antenna will work for you until you try it. The web site below may provide some guidance.
Bottom line, if you can handle the expense, the cable box and digital channel subscription are your best bet.
