Star Good Working
Is being a broadway star a good dream? If so, how can I try to make it happen?
I sound a bit like Lea Michelle and I love Broadway! Is this dream practical? If so, is there any way I can make this happen? Be specific, I know I need to work my butt off!
sure, it's a good dream. it's just not a very practical one.
you should take a lot of singing lessons and acting, as well as dance lessons and be familiar with a wide range of styles and repertory. you don't necessarily have to go to college for that, but it can help. be in every production of everything you can get your hands on.you should move to a city with a very large theater presence and go to every casting call or audition you can find.
the way this works is you hear about open auditions any way you can and you and a bajillion other people show up and the first cuts are made often out in the hallway. the casting person (probably not the casting director) will look you over and send most of you home without even hearing you speak or sing or seeing you dance.
then if you get a number, you get to walk out onstage and to your bit a little along with hundreds of other people and a couple dozen of you may get called back.
then IF you're called back, you go through a more thorough audition and IF you're cast, it will be long hours of hard work and if you're sick or injured, tough. the show will open (usually) and often it closes right down again and you have to start again all over.
while you're doing all this, you have to find a way to pay rent and buy groceries, so you'll need a job. and it has to be a job that gives you flexible enough hours to go out to your casting calls, so think waitress.
