What features are desirable in an ECG Simulator?
I'm trying to buy a patient simulator to continually test a dozen patient monitors (with snap patient cables) but prices and options change a lot between brands.
What features are necessary apart from the typical heart wave?

There are two different kinds of simulators.
First you have the general ECG simulators, they are really useful for testing and some of them also for designing diagnostic equipment. A desirable feature would be the availability of noise sources to test your equipment's filters and algorithms. Also check if they have realistic or synthesized waveforms. Always prefer realistic.
On the other hand there are high end patient simulators like the ones from Fluke. They cost three times the price of a general simulator but they are specifically designed for scientific applications.
In your case you'd need one of the first ones.
