Dual Mode Oscilloscope

How to measure current across collector to emitter (in Common emitter mode) using oscilloscope?

I need to display the transistor characteristics in common emitter mode on an oscilloscope. I feed a staircase waveform to the base and a sawtooth (width = staircase step width) to the collector. I can feed the sawtooth directly from the collector. But how do I feed the Ic to the oscilloscope?
I can't insert a resistor in the Vcc collector path and take the output across that as the oscilloscope Y input has a common ground, which would cause short circuit problems in this case.

One website indicated using the two Y inputs of a Dual Channel Oscilloscope, but did not give any detail. Can any one help ASAP? Thanks in advance.

You can connect a suitable collector load resistor and measure the collector voltage switching the the scope to a.c.mode.The measured voltage divided by the load resistor would give the collector current.
