How do I or can I ask for pay differential for covering two positions?
There is an employee in my department who has had problems coming to work on time or coming at all. She has found out recently that she has a condition that will require her to be out of work. In the past two weeks she has missed 5 days. She will be out the next three weeks on FMLA for physical therapy. Her position requires alot of work. I will covering her position as well as my normal position. How do I or can I ask for a pay differential for covering two postions? If so, how much of a percentage?
I should also add that I work for a government establishment.
You can certainly ask. However, unless you have a contract which stiuplates you are to do no other work than that outlined in the contract, the employer is not obligated to pay you any such differential or to even keep you on the payroll should you ask for such.
